Wage Theft

Wage theft is the illegal practice of not paying workers for all of their work. This includes violating minimum wage laws, not paying overtime, and forcing workers to work off the clock. It is a major problem statewide. In Los Angeles alone, low-wage workers lose $26.2 million in wage theft violations every week, making our city the wage theft capital of the country.

Wage theft is a crime. You may be a victim of wage theft if:

  • You work piece rate or under the table
  • You are forced to continue working after you have clocked out
  • You had your tips stolen
  • You do not receive meal or rest breaks
