Our Ready 2 Work program is a series of workshops that provide job skills training and industry-specific mentorship to Black workers. Our goal is to support our communities to succeed professionally and have access to meaningful careers with fair wages and benefits. Before starting, participants attend an orientation to learn about program expectations as well as the LABWC’s vision and goals. Over a three-month period, participants learn how to develop an effective resume and prepare for impactful interviews. Our workshops also offer guidance on how to navigate challenges that may occur in the workplace, meet employer expectations, and balance work/life priorities. Upon completing the program, graduates are eligible to access our Ready 2 Work database for job referrals and job placement support. To ensure long-term success and job retention, we provide ongoing mentorship and support.
Participants will be pre-screened with a LABWC organizer to identify common interest in supporting our organization’s mission and goals and to discuss LABWC membership.
Screened participants will attend the Black Empowerment orientation to learn about the Ready 2 Work program.
Participants will meet one-on-one with a project coordinator to sign Ready 2 Work forms, discuss career goals and opportunities, and connect with our network of sector-specific mentors.
Participants will prepare resumes, cover letters, and references, in addition to completing mock interviews.
Referral for Job Placement
The LABWC will provide participants a referral for job opportunities and follow up within three months to check on progress.
